حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُسَيْرُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ ، قُلْتُ لِسَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ : هَلْ سَمِعْتَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ فِي الْخَوَارِجِ شَيْئًا ؟ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ وَأَهْوَى بِيَدِهِ قِبَلَ الْعِرَاقِ : يَخْرُجُ مِنْهُ قَوْمٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ ، يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الْإِسْلَامِ مُرُوقَ السَّهْمِ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ .
ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے عبدالواحد بن زیادہ نے، کہا ہم سے سلمان شیبانی نے، کہا ہم سے یسیر بن عمرو نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے سہل بن حنیف ( بدری صحابی ) رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا کیا تم نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو خوارج کے سلسلے میں کچھ فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے، انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ کہتے ہوئے سنا ہے اور آپ نے عراق کی طرف ہاتھ سے اشارہ فرمایا تھا کہ ادھر سے ایک جماعت نکلے گی یہ لوگ قرآن مجید پڑھیں گے لیکن قرآن مجید ان کے حلقوں سے نیچے نہیں اترے گا۔ وہ اسلام سے اس طرح باہر ہو جائیں گے جیسے تیر شکار کے جانور سے باہر نکل جاتا ہے۔
Narrated Yusair bin `Amr: I asked Sahl bin Hunaif, Did you hear the Prophet saying anything about Al-Khawarij? He said, I heard him saying while pointing his hand towards Iraq. There will appear in it (i.e, Iraq) some people who will recite the Qur'an but it will not go beyond their throats, and they will go out from (leave) Islam as an arrow darts through the game's body.'
Narrated `Abdullah: When the Verse: 'It is those who believe and confuse not their belief with wrong (i.e., worshipping others besides Allah): (6.82) was revealed, it became very hard on the companions of the Prophet and they said, Who among us has not confused his belief with wrong (oppression)? On that, Allah's Apostle said, This is not meant (by the Verse). Don't you listen to Luqman's statement: 'Verily! Joining others in worship with Allah is a great wrong indeed.' (31.13)

The news of this event, reached Ibn `Abbas who said, If I had been in his place, I would not have burnt them, as Allah's Apostle forbade it, saying, 'Do not punish anybody with Allah's punishment (fire).' I would have killed them according to the statement of Allah's Apostle, 'Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.'
