حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَسُهَيْلُ بْنُ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : مَنْ صَامَ يَوْمًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بَعَّدَ اللَّهُ ، وَجْهَهُ عَنِ النَّارِ سَبْعِينَ خَرِيفًا .
ہم سے اسحاق بن نضر نے بیان کیا ‘ کہا ہم سے عبدالرزاق نے بیان کیا ‘ کہا ہم کو ابن جریج نے خبر دی ‘ کہا کہ مجھے یحییٰ بن سعید اور سہیل بن ابی صالح نے خبر دی ‘ ان دونوں حضرات نے نعمان بن ابی عیاش سے سنا ‘ انہوں نے ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ سے ‘ آپ نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا ‘ آپ فرماتے تھے کہ جس نے اللہ تعالیٰ کے راستے میں ( جہاد کرتے ہوئے ) ایک دن بھی روزہ رکھا اللہ تعالیٰ اسے جہنم سے ستر سال کی مسافت کی دوری تک دور کر دے گا۔
Narrated Abu Sa`id: I heard the Prophet saying, Indeed, anyone who fasts for one day for Allah's Pleasure, Allah will keep his face away from the (Hell) fire for (a distance covered by a journey of) seventy years.

Hadith 2782
Narrated `Abdullah bin Masud: I asked Allah's Apostle, O Allah's Apostle! What is the best deed? He replied, To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times. I asked, What is next in goodness? He replied, To be good and dutiful to your parents. I further asked, what is next in goodness? He replied, To participate in Jihad in Allah's Cause. I did not ask Allah's Apostle anymore and if I had asked him more, he would have told me more.

Narrated `Aisha: (That she said), O Allah's Apostle! We consider Jihad as the best deed. Should we not fight in Allah's Cause? He said, The best Jihad (for women) is Hajj-Mabrur (i.e. Hajj which is done according to the Prophet's tradition and is accepted by Allah).

Narrated Abu Huraira: A man came to Allah's Apostle and said, Instruct me as to such a deed as equals Jihad (in reward). He replied, I do not find such a deed. Then he added, Can you, while the Muslim fighter is in the battle-field, enter your mosque to perform prayers without cease and fast and never break your fast? The man said, But who can do that? Abu- Huraira added, The Mujahid (i.e. Muslim fighter) is rewarded even for the footsteps of his horse while it wanders bout (for grazing) tied in a long rope.

Allah's Apostle replied A believer who strives his utmost in Allah's Cause with his life and property. They asked, Who is next? He replied, A believer who stays in one of the mountain paths worshipping Allah and leaving the people secure from his mischief.
