حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ الْبُنَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كَانَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ لَا يَصُومُ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَجْلِ الْغَزْوِ ، فَلَمَّا قُبِضَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ أَرَهُ مُفْطِرًا إِلَّا يَوْمَ فِطْرٍ أَوْ أَضْحَى .
ہم سے آدم بن ابی ایاس نے بیان کیا ‘ کہا ہم سے شعبہ نے بیان کیا ‘ کہا ہم سے ثابت بنانی نے ‘ کہا کہ میں نے انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا ‘ انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ ابوطلحہ زید بن سہیل رضی اللہ عنہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے زمانے میں جہاد میں شرکت کے خیال سے ( نفلی روزے نہیں رکھتے تھے لیکن آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی وفات کے بعد پھر میں نے انہیں عیدالفطر اور عید الاضحی کے سوا روزے کے بغیر نہیں دیکھا۔
Narrated Anas bin Malik: In the life-time of the Prophet, Abu Talha did not fast because of the Jihad, but after the Prophet died I never saw him without fasting except on `Id-ul-Fitr and `Id-ul-Aclha.

Narrated `Abdullah bin Masud: I asked Allah's Apostle, O Allah's Apostle! What is the best deed? He replied, To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times. I asked, What is next in goodness? He replied, To be good and dutiful to your parents. I further asked, what is next in goodness? He replied, To participate in Jihad in Allah's Cause. I did not ask Allah's Apostle anymore and if I had asked him more, he would have told me more.

Narrated Abu Huraira: A man came to Allah's Apostle and said, Instruct me as to such a deed as equals Jihad (in reward). He replied, I do not find such a deed. Then he added, Can you, while the Muslim fighter is in the battle-field, enter your mosque to perform prayers without cease and fast and never break your fast? The man said, But who can do that? Abu- Huraira added, The Mujahid (i.e. Muslim fighter) is rewarded even for the footsteps of his horse while it wanders bout (for grazing) tied in a long rope.

Allah's Apostle replied A believer who strives his utmost in Allah's Cause with his life and property. They asked, Who is next? He replied, A believer who stays in one of the mountain paths worshipping Allah and leaving the people secure from his mischief.
